PSHCE
PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education)
At Dane Bank we have adopted the Jigsaw scheme of work for PSHCE and RSHE.
Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE, brings together Personal, Social, Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. These resources help teachers to focus on tailoring the lessons to their children’s needs and to enjoy building a relationship with their class and getting to know them better as unique human beings. Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. This enables each Puzzle to start with an introductory assembly, generating a whole school focus for adults and children alike.
Work is celebrated in class floor books and displays around schools – if you would like to have a look at some of our work, please look through the slideshow below.
Jigsaw Overview
The Jigsaw scheme of work connects the pieces of Personal, Social, Health and Well-Being Education with an ongoing focus on mindfulness woven throughout. The programme teaches children emotional literacy, social- and lifelong skills and resilience. The scheme also covers the statutory Relationships, Sex and Health Education curriculum in an age-appropriate manner. Jigsaw gives children and young people the tools to have the best possible life. The programme equips them for happier and healthier lives, giving them agency to make their way through the world.
The scheme is broken down in to 6 ‘puzzles’ – one for each half term. Each ‘puzzle’ has a different focus and a brief overview can be seen below for each. All classes across school cover the same ‘puzzle’ theme at the same time – supporting a whole-school approach.

As a supplement to our PSHE curriculum, we are proud to be a “myHappymind” school!
As a whole school program grounded in science and dedicated to building positive mental wellbeing, myHappymind helps children understand how their brains work and creates a culture that helps to build children’s resilience, confidence, and self-esteem.
myHappymind also teaches the children how to self-regulate and manage their emotions in stressful times, allowing them to be their very best selves!

myHappymind lessons are taught all across school – from Nursery, right the way yup to Year 6. The programme consists of 5 modules which are outlined below:
Meet Your Brain
Understanding how your brain works and how to ensure we look after it so that we can manage our emotions and be at our best. Growth mindset is a key part of this too.
Celebrate
Understanding your unique character strengths and learning to celebrate them. This is a fantastic module for building self-esteem.
Appreciate
Understanding why gratitude matters and how you can develop gratitude as a habit. Gratitude is key to well-being and resilience and we’re all about making it a habit!
Relate
Understanding why positive relationships matter and how to build them. We’re focussed on the building blocks of good relationships and friendships.
Engage
Understanding how to set meaningful goals that matter and how to keep resilient in times of challenge. This module is all about building self-esteem and resilience too.
